Mechanisms of action of pregnancy recognition signals from the conceptus to the maternal uterus, including interferon tau and estrogen from ruminant and pig conceptuses. The roles of uterine secretions as transport proteins, regulatory molecules, growth factors and enzymes and endocrine regulation of their secretion is another major research interest. The mechanism(s) of action and potential therapeutic value of conceptus interferons and uterine-derived hematopoietic growth factors are areas of research with both pigs and sheep as models for human disease.

Fuller Warren Bazer

Guoyao Wu is a University Distinguished Professor, University Faculty Fellow, and AgriLife Research Senior Faculty Fellow in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University. He received the B.S. degree in Animal Science from South China Agricultural University (1978- 1982); an M.S. degree in Animal Nutrition from Beijing Agricultural University, China (1982- 1984); and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Animal Biochemistry from the University of Alberta, Canada (1984-1986 and 1986-1989, respectively). Dr. Wu undertook postdoctoral training in Biochemistry and Nutrition at McGill University (1989-1991) and Memorial University of Newfoundland (1991) in Canada. His research interests include the biochemistry, nutrition and physiology of amino acids in animals at the molecular, cellular, and whole body levels. Dr. Wu has been a faculty member at Texas A&M University since October 1991. To date, he has published 605 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, with total citations of > 48,500 and an Hirsch-index of 110 in Google Scholar, 58 chapters in books, and 2 text/reference books "Amino Acids: Biochemistry and Nutrition” (2013, CRC Press) and “Principles of Animal Nutrition” (2018, CRC Press). He has been recognized with numerous awards from his profession, including the Nonruminant Nutrition Research Award and the Morrison Award from the American Society of Animal Science, New Frontiers in Animal Nutrition Research Award from the Federation of Animal Science Societies and American Feed Industry Association, and Distinguished Scientist of Sigma Xi Honor Society - Texas A&M University Chapter. Dr. Wu is a member and elected Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science.

GNATs have a variety of functions, including acetylating polyamines, and my laboratory is studying how these diverse enzymes catalyze their reactions using biochemical approaches.

Bruno Ramos-Molina

Research Field My scientific career started in the field of obesity. My PhD project in Prof. MP Portillo laboratory (University of Basque Country) led to the characterization of the role of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) on weight loss and lipid metabolism. At the end of my PhD training, I moved to University of Burgundy for a 5 month stay (under the supervision of Dr. H Poirier), where I studied the effect of CLA in liver cholesterol metabolism of mice. In 2008 I joined CIC bioGUNE, first in Cytogenomics with Dr. Parada and in 2010 in the lab of Dr. Carracedo to pursue my interest in the study of metabolism in cancer. Since January 2019 I work as research assistant in the Lab of Dr. Carracedo leading different projects and helping PhD students to develop and design experiments.

Amaia Zabala Letona

Dr. Sen Liu is a full professor at the School of Food and Biological Engineering, Hubei University of Technology, China. Dr. Liu obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in biotechnology from China Three Gorges University, and completed his Ph.D degree in the Center for Quantitative Biology, Peking University, before he performed postdoctoral research in the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3), University of California, San Francisco. He was a visiting sholar in the Department of Pharmacology & Chemical Biology, University of Pittsburgh. He is an associated PI of Rosetta Commons, the distingushed scientific community for macromolecule modeling and design based on the well-known Rosetta software. He has authored over 50 academic papers and received over 15 research grants. A major focus of his lab currently is investigating the regulating mechanism of the polyamine metabolic network and targeted drug discovery.
